Sherry L. Leichman, Partner

Sherry Leichman pictureSherry Leichman has been a member of Maryland Bar since 1985 and is a member of the District of Columbia Bar. She has a wealth of experience in all areas of family law including adoptions, custody issues, divorce, property division and settlements, guardianships (adult and child), prenuptials and is a seasoned litigator. Ms. Leichman is the founding member of the Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals, Inc. and is a trained Collaborative Law attorney. Ms. Leichman is also a trained mediator and provides mediation for the Montgomery County Courts, as well as, mediation for private clients. She is a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and has a wealth of experience in private adoptions including contested adoptions. She is experienced in Interstate Compact for Placement of Children (ICPC) work.

Formerly a partner of Schweitzer, Scherr and Leichman in Bethesda, Maryland, Ms. Leichman worked on complicated adoption and domestic relations cases gaining the trust of clients. Previously, as an associate with the Lewis Law Firm, a prominent domestic relations law firm in the District of Columbia, Ms. Leichman prepared complicated property settlement agreements, negotiated and litigated child custody cases, divorces, monetary awards, adoptions and other family law matters.

Ms. Leichman was an Associate County Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland, for twelve years serving for ten years as in-house counsel for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, representing Child and Adult Protective Services in neglect and abuse cases and handling all the adoptions of foster children. She has an expertise in sex abuse cases. She was also the Chief Counsel for the code enforcement unit for two years. Ms. Leichman served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Douglas Moore, Jr., and Honorable John Tracey, both currently retired judges of the Montgomery County Juvenile Court.

Ms. Leichman received her Bachelor of Science from Boston University and her Juris Doctorate from Antioch School of Law. She is licensed to practice in the District of Columbia and Maryland. Ms. Leichman is currently the president of the Montgomery County Chapter of the Women's Bar. She is also a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Montgomery County Bar Association, the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys, the Maryland Women's Bar Association, the District of Columbia Women's Bar Association, Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, the Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals, Inc., the Collaborative Law Alliance of D.C., and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.

Ms. Leichman has been named by Maryland Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in Maryland for 2008. Ms. Leichman has also been named by Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in Washigton D.C. for 2008. Only five percent of the lawyers in the state are named by Super Lawyers.

Keith D. Snyder, Partner

Keith Snyder is a prominent veterans advocate practicing veterans law for over 20 years. He has been a member of the Maryland Bar since 1985, the District of Columbia Bar since 1991, and admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. In 1989, Mr. Snyder left the National Veterans Legal Services Program in Washington, D.C., to start his own veterans rights practice. He has been representing hundreds of veterans and their survivors since that time in their efforts to obtain disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is a founding member and past president of the National Organization of Veterans Advocates. Mr. Snyder also concentrates his practice in adult guardianships.

Prior to private practice, Mr. Snyder was an attorney with the National Veterans Legal Services Project and the Vietnam Veterans of America Legal Services in Washington, D.C. He has published training manuals and conducted training programs for Legal Services attorneys throughout the country. For the Vietnam Veterans of America, a Congressionally-chartered veterans service organization, he tracking regulatory and legislative developments involving the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense. Mr. Snyder is a leader in the field of veterans law and has filed suits for hundreds of clients before the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

Mr. Snyder has published numerous materials pertaining to veterans benefits including newsletters designed for attorneys, veterans advocates and individual veterans, a series of self-help guides for veterans, and detailed manuals for advocates. He co-authored the Viet Vet Survival Guide published in 1985 by Ballantine Books and Veterans Benefits published in 1994 by HarperCollins. He has presented testimony before Congressional committees and been qualified as an expert witness in federal court proceedings relating to veterans disability law.

Mr. Snyder received his Bachelor of Science from The American University and his Juris Doctorate from The Washington College of Law. He served as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy between 1969 and 1972.
